About the maternal and child health public health program
The Maternal and Child Health Public Health Program is dedicated to offering qualified masters (MPH students only) and doctoral students within the Texas A&M University School of Public Health (SPH) didactic experiences in the maternal and child health (MCH) field. The program aims to increase MCH exposure to students interested in obtaining MCH jobs after graduation. The goal of the program is to foster critical thinking and leadership to enable a diverse group of students to contribute to, develop and improve services directed towards women s health across the life-span, reproductive health, maternal, infant, childhood and adolescent health, and children with special health care needs. Understanding of this unique and complex population is acquired through a foundational MCH course and a seminar series which are open to all SPH students. Program trainees obtain additional training through a direct research experience with one of our MCH faculty and are encouraged to complete their practicum in the MCH field. This is not a degree or certificate program, however, you may earn a certificate in Maternal and Child Health with the completion of required courses. More information can be found at the School of Public Health website. At the end of our program, graduates will have increased knowledge related to the MCH field.

Eligibility criteria for traineeships
Eligible students include Master of Public Health and doctoral students at the School of Public Health who are U.S Citizens or U.S Permanent Residents dedicated to pursuing a career in maternal and child health. All students who enter the program are expected to complete the program requirements prior to graduating. Special consideration will be given to students with a strong commitment to working in local health departments, health service regions or other public health related government agencies or non-profit organizations in the state of Texas. Applicants must be in good academic standing.

MCH Trainees will receive up to $5,000 in scholarship funds. Funds are also available for travel to a MCH related conference on a first come first serve basis.

To receive a trainee scholarship the student must be a United States citizen or U.S. Permanent Resident.

Program requirements
Successful completion of the program requires the following:

  1. Participation in the Maternal and Child Health Student Organization (MCHSO);
  2. Must take PHEB 621, Foundations of Maternal and Child Health (offered in spring 2021);
  3. Completion of a practicum in the MCH field and/or a direct research experience with one of our MCH faculty.

Trainees must also maintain good academic standing and not have any disciplinary actions or honor violations throughout the course of study.

Nepotism Statement

In 2007 the 80th Texas Legislature enacted Senate Bill 1325 that prohibits relatives of public college and university Board members from receiving certain scholarships from an institution on whose board the member serves. To comply with this statute we are requesting that you complete the statement below that will be retained for audit purposes.

State law (SB 1325) requires that all students identify any relation to a current Board of Regent member. A student who is related to a current member of the governing board of that institution is prohibited from receiving scholarships unless the scholarship is awarded exclusively based on academic merit or is an athletic scholarship. It is a Class B misdemeanor to file a false statement.

Are you related to any current member of the Texas A&M University System Board of Regents? Applicable relationships include one of the following:
  1. Regent's--spouse, spouse's child, spouse's parent, child's spouse, parent's spouse;
  2. Regent's--spouse's brother or sister, spouse's grandparent, spouse's grandchild, brother or sister's spouse, grandparent's spouse, grandchild's spouse;
  3. Regent's--parent, daughter, son;
  4. Regent's--brother, sister, grandparent, grandchild; or
  5. Regent's--great-grandparent, great-grandchild, uncle or aunt (brother or sister of parent) nephew or niece (son or daughter of brother or sister).

A list of current Texas A&M University System Board of Regent members can be viewed at http://www.tamus.edu/regents/bios/. Select the most appropriate answer below indicating your relation to any of the Board of Regent members.

    When you bring additional fields into a conversion, Quickbase often finds inconsistencies. For example, say you're converting your Companies column into its own table. One company, Acme Corporation, has offices in New York, Dallas and Portland. So, when you add the City column to the conversion, Quickbase finds three different locations for Acme. A single value in the column you're converting can only match one value in any additional field. Quickbase needs you to clean up the extra cities before it can create your new table. To do so, you have one of two choices:

    • If you want to create three separate Acme records (Acme-New York, Acme-Dallas and Acme-Portland) click the Conform link at the top of the column.
    • If the dissimilar entries are mistakes (say Acme only has one office in New York and the other locations are data-entry errors) go back into your table and correct the inconsistencies—in this case, changing all locations to New York. Then try the conversion again.
